Overshadowing the Kilombero Plains 350km southwest of Dar es Salaam are the wild, richly forested slants of the Udzungwa Mountains, bits of which are protected as a component of the 1900-sq-km Udzungwa Mountains National Park – an intriguingly unique destination for anybody naturally inclined or inspired by remote hiking. Notwithstanding one of the unique plants, the park has a significant populace of primates (10 species – more than any of Tanzania’s different parks), as well as the grey, faced sengi (a species of elephant wench). There are likewise elephants, buffaloes, leopards, hippos and crocodiles, despite the fact that these – especially hippos and crocodiles – are fundamentally in the park’s southwest and only from time to time are observed.

Birding is fantastic, particularly on the encompassing Kilombero floodplains. A decent spot to begin is the wetlands flanking the principal street about 2km north of Mang’ula town, below Hondo camp. Behind here, at the forest’s edge, colobus and different primates are much of the time spotted.
